A few weeks ago I was inspired to pick up my paint brush and embellish an art piece that I created years ago. This piece was created as a demo during a welding workshop to promote trades for young women. It is a beautiful wall or fence hanging, approximately 6”x6” in size. The inspiration came from the village of a beautiful little soul who now lives amongst the stars. Her village was raising money for the Ronald McDonald House. A foundation that significantly impacts so many during times of adversity. I was moved and wanted to contribute financially but like so many, not in a place to do so at that time. So I did what I could do and shared a month worth of amazing stories and memories. You can check out my Facebook to follow Lindsay and Arya’s journey.
As I painted I thought of ways to take this inspiration further. I decided, a silent auction is the best course. With all of the proceeds going towards a charity of my choice. But at the time I wasn’t sure where to contribute. So this piece has been curing for a few weeks now. Waiting for the right moment.
That moment is now, today to honour another beautiful soul… On April 15, 1988 a beautiful rainbow of light was born. Allison Morrison’s light touched so many people. Many we will never know. She was the type of person to let the moment inspire. She would take the sweater off her back to help someone when she could. She was the kindest and most generous person. With a unique laugh that still rings in my mind.
Tragically Alley left this world 3 years ago this past January. Through her memory of kindness, inclusiveness and her background of child and youth development. As well as, the connection of her birthday falling within autism awareness month, I have decided to donate all the proceeds of the auction to Kerry’s Place. Below describes their vision, mission and values. An organization that I think Allison would be proud to support.
“Our Vision
We envision a future where all persons with Autism Spectrum Disorder are participating fully in our communities.
Our Mission
Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for persons with Autism Spectrum Disorder and to empower them and their families, through evidence-based, innovative and person-directed supports.
Our Values
Our values are the foundation of our work with the persons we support, their families, our employees, funders, community partners and other stakeholders:
Showing Respect by advancing the dignity and uniqueness of all persons. Championing Choice by supporting the right of all persons to make informed choices. Working with Integrity by valuing truthful, accountable and ethical interactions. Fostering Teamwork by reinforcing the synergy that comes from all of us working safely together. Emphasizing Continuous Learning by sharing knowledge and enabling personal growth.” [1]
Through the sadness of loss, I feel the need to remember the light that is still and will always be shining in this world from those gone. Taking the physical that the ones lost can’t contribute and passing on and continuing their legacies.
Info on the silent auction to come…
Happy Heavenly Birthday Alley. You are never far from my mind and always in my Heart. Until we meet again my friend, keep shining down rainbows with all your heavenly homies. You are missing in the flesh but never from the heart.
